Preparing
The Dossiers Ok.
You better not show up in court with nothing but your legal briefs! In
preparation for the trial your legal team will need a dossier (full factual account
- 1 to 2 pages) on: -
the witnesses (who are all famous scientists) - the exhibits
(four of the first electrical inventions) -
some electric
technologies (telephone, DVD, etc.). Send
an inter-office memo to call an 'ET' (electric technology) team meeting. Discuss
who will do what. But whatever you do - don't show up in court without the facts.
When
the prosecutor gets going, you will have to substantiate any credible evidence
you have gathered. You
know the routine. Find out: who, what, when, where, why, and how all of the electric
technology that surrounds us today got here. Otherwise
we'll get torn to shreds! And you can kiss any future ET good-bye! The judge is
tough. I'm sure she has no problem throwing ET in the slammer for good. It's up
to you to redeem it. So get out there and gather your evidence! Work
As A Team - Minimize Redundancy: Scientist
Witnesses: (Each student must prepare a biographical, 1-2 page dossier
on one scientist. Make sure you find out how your scientist was helped by the
larger community of scientists. In other words, determine what accomplishments
were made possible by the work of others.) Ampere
Bell Edison Faraday
Franklin Galvani Goethe
Hertz Marconi Maxwell
Oersted
Ohm
Tesla
Volta
Inventions:
(Each
student must prepare a factual,
1-2 page dossier
on one of the first four inventions. Your dossier should include a clear description
of the basic physics involved. Be prepared to teach the court what you have learned.
Ask for help from other team members if you are having trouble understanding the
workings of the invention you pick.) EXHIBIT
A: The Battery EXHIBIT
B: The Generator

C: The Motor

D: The Transformer Electric
Technologies: (Each
student must prepare a
1-2 page
dossier on one of the technologies on the list below. Write your ET dossier with
3 parts: how it works, how it is good, and how it is bad.)

here for the list of High Technology favorites you must use. So
let's recap... On
the first day of class, you will turn in three 1-2 page papers (your dossiers):
- a biography of
one of the scientists
- a
description of one of the first four inventions
- a
3 part exposition on one electric technology.
