- Charles Darwin (1809 - 1882)was a very good man. He was religious, honorable, and extremely thorough as a scientist.
- When he was young, he had the chance to be a botanist on a boat (The Beagle) that was scheduled to travel all over the world.
- His notes on all kinds of animals across the world from these travels were published in the book The Voyage of the Beagle.
- His book stands as one of the best examples in history of an excellent scientific observer.
- Darwin published his analysis of his recorded his observations in the now famous book, The Origin of Species.
- This book describes what is now Darwinism - his Theory of Evolution. This book became one of the most popular books ever written.
- To this day scientists and common people argue over the two ideas of whether evolution can be random and whether natural selection means that the fittest species survive.
