Da Vinci

  • Leonardo Da Vinci was the quintessential 'Renaissance Man' because he was so well versed in so many disciplines.
  • He painted the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.
  • He was successful in: anatomy, architecture, botany, engineering, geology, hydraulics, literature, mathematics, military, music, optics, and sculpture.
  • His work with the Golden Mean leaves clues that some think we, of this time, are about to discover.
  • He was centuries ahead of his time as seen in sketched inventions of parachutes and flying machines.
  • The Virtuvian Man has become very well known as showing the proportions of man. It uses the Golden Mean. Leonardo uses this proportion in many pieces of his work. It was done around 1492, as Columbus sailed to America. Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man (1492). Pen and ink with wash over metalpoint on paper, 344 × 245 mm.
  • He was an intuitive in that he integrated many disciplines into one whole - and yet he was an analyst in that he could specify the many parts of any discipline and show how they function.
